Does a customer’s credit card charge-off, after 7 years get removed automatically from their credit report?

in Build Your Credit

A charge-off from a credit card account stays on a credit report for 7 years. Does the charge-off get removed from a person’s credit report automatically (just like a bankruptcy does after 10 years) by the credit bureau OR does the customer have to contact the credit card company to have the charge-off removed from their credit report?

Not always. The Credit bureaus are notorious for having missing or incomplete information. Plus don’t forget to check all three agencies. Just because one took it off doesn’t mean they all have. I have had to write letter after letter and sent emails and called to get error removed from my record. Just keep checking and keep at it. Eventually, they will fix the mistakes.

i have them same problem, I’ve just learned that you can dispute items that have been charged off if it goes past the 7yrs, speak with the credit bureau, equifax is the most accurate, to double-check.
