I filed a dispute online with Equifax and they sent me an email stating that I need to send in or fax over my driver’s license, social security card or w2, and a utility bill to prove to them that I am who I say I am before they can process the investigation. That doesn’t make any sense to me conisdering I had to to answer specific questions to prove who I was before I could even get my credit report. I’m concerned with mailing or faxing this stuff in because that’s my whole life right there. If someone was really trying to steal my identity, they’d have everything they needed…I’m wondering if there’s another way around it because I didn’t have to do all that when I filed a dispute with the Transunion credit buerau. Thanks.

They usually send a ltter by mail or call you for dispputes. I would call the 800 number adn ask why they would need all of this information over! If they insisst i will file a report at the police station about the fear of your identity theft adn send that over to them! That should be enough proof then!
Sounds like pnish. I went through a online dispute and all they needed was enough information to pull my credit report. Once they make it to that point they have all the personal information they need. If they discuss your business then ask for more idenity I’d be worried. Be careful, credit fraud is at a all time high right now.
Disputing online is a hassle. Your best bet is to submit your dispute in writing and attach a copy of your drivers license and social security card as well. Get your letter notarized and send it certified mail. Keep the original for yourself and send the copy to Equifax.
There may be someone else with the same name as yours and they’re trying to determine which credit goes there. Make your dispute in a registered letter so you have proof someone signed for the mail. If they want documentation of who you are send them a copy of your driver license, which will have all the information they need like your birth date but it will not have your SSN on it. If you have a utility bill send them that it doesn’t have enough info for someone to steal your identity but it does establish your address, which is on the report, along with previous address, Include copies of these documents in your registered letter. Tell them you are not comfortable giving a copy of your SSN. I believe they have the authority to directly call the SSA Department section where SSNs are tracked. They don’t have to ask whose SS it is, but they can get a yes or no answer if they ask was this SSN issued to XXX? There is a booklet, available to anyone that lists every SSN, the year it was issued and in what state. Ifthey want documentation of where you work they can probably call the HR department of your employment, this is also a part of your credit report. If the credit report determines your identity has been stolen they have to tell you and report it to the proper authorities and flag your report that your identity has been stolen.
Сredit repair workеd fine to fix my credit. They disputed and removed lots of bad items from my credit report. I used this service – creditreport.fateback.com
